When Action Sports Athletes Need an Education

Catch the crazy X Games 13? Even if watching daredevil BMX bikers isn't on your "to do" list, it's the season to revisit this New York Times article. The colorful piece showcases those who bypass brick and mortar schools not to avoid bullies, promote religious values, or achieve better academics. Instead, homeschooling reigns as the convenient lifestyle choice for, say, a teenage professional skateboarder, who can command six figures, but is still bound by the ruling class' anti-free market compulsory education strictures.

The money quote: "As athletes get younger and these sports get more competitive, you have to stay in the game,' said Circe Wallace, a retired snowboarder turned action sports agent. "I've been in this business 15 years, and it's always been those with parents that understand the freedom and flexibility of home schooling that go the furthest."
