The Homeschooling Revolution

June 11, 2007

Educational Hodgepodge

-Washington Barb passed along this article about the national homeschool debate tourney that has attracted hundreds of talkers. The opening is a hoot: "Well versed in de Tocqueville, Hegel and NATO reform, dressed to impress in their best business suits, they're over-prepared, under-rested and, in many cases, looking forward to getting their driver's permit."

-Oh, joy! A smug lawyer and blogger who willfully stereotypes a certain type of home scholar. Here's the link:

-Although the column was published last year, Suzanne Fields has a relevant word to the smug. She wrote about the results of an Intercollegiate Studies Institute civic literacy test: "The longer a student attends class, the dumber he gets. Students at the elite schools fared worse than students at some church and land-grant schools."

-Lauren McCain, the homeschool grad who lost her life in the Virginia Tech massacre, taped her spiritual testimony shortly before her death. Now Campus Crusade for Christ is showing the video to churches and other religious groups.

-Ouch and double ouch! In a fracas with students, a New Jersey teacher had several of her braids pulled out.
