The Homeschooling Revolution

May 02, 2006

T-Shirt Slogan: "Proud to be an Unwashed Homeschooler"

Barb, via Bruce Shortt, informs me of one Dr. Jim West, pastor of Petros Baptist Church, who wrote this on his blog (and I refuse to provide the link, but email me if you want it): "The only people who pull their kids from public schools out of fear are the same sort who haven't ever read the Bible in Greek or Hebrew. In other words, they are the sort of people who get all their information second hand. This whole crusade is nothing but another in the long line of senseless crusades entered into by frenzied, uninformed, twaddling and prattling mobs of unwashed peasants. And it is doomed to failure. Fortunately."

But a few blog entries above this post, is a direct quote from Dr. Dave Black's (respected homeschool advocate) blog: "I just sent 54 video tapes to an editor in Dallas who will take the Greek course I taught in Ethiopia last summer and turn it into DVDs. Then I will make the course available to anyone who wants or needs it, home scholars included. If you knew how difficult it was for us to find someone with enough expertise to do this, you'll understand why we're so pleased and thankful." West on DB's endeavor: "That's certainly a project worth keeping one's eyes open for."

By the way: Here's what Bruce Shortt wrote about being deemed unwashed: "Now, I really resent the comment about my bathing habits ... Of course, I can't speak for Roger. In any event, the esteemed Dr. West evidently thinks that Al Mohler needs a shower, too.

Dr. West tried to rely on the same deft arguments in combatting the 2004 resolution. I hope that those who support government education are comfortable with Dr. Jim as their champion."

Touché update: Judy Aron: "I've read the Bible in Hebrew ... so have my kids."

Another Touché: Little Bitty Baby Learns Greek is a book written by homeschool grad, Johannah Bluedorn.
