After reading this compact essay, about Lewis and Clark and Jeffersonian government and the Louisiana Purchase, it's easy to understand why Dr. Fears, who teaches classics at the University of Oklahoma, is known for his "riveting" lectures. Probably not barb-free, either: "It always amazes me that academics whose main task is to drive to their office a few days a month criticize Lewis and Clark for making their way 8,000 miles."
