Montana Comes to Montana & a Writer Who Wouldn't Dig

(No, the two don't relate, but I've misplaced my creative license.)

When athletic scholarships are used to fund criminal enterprises ... In a tough-minded piece of investigative reporting from Sports Illustrated about wayward athletes and shady coaching practices at Montana State University, the little paper that could - the Belgrade News - gets noticed. Congrats to Editor Andy Malby and the staff. (Andy kindly ran a recent piece about NASCAR I wrote for the BN.)

"(He) had formed a college for himself..." Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Unitarian and transcendentalist, wrote this essay about education. His point of view is sympatico to unschooling and homeschooling, although the renowned lecturer doesn't use those words. Apparently, R.W.E. didn't enjoy his stint as a schoolteacher. The anecdote (towards the end) about Sir Charles Fellowes who re-created an Ionic trophy/monument for the British museum is awash with significant details.
