The Homeschooling Revolution

July 24, 2007

Homeschoolers Back Religious Righter

Underdog presidential hopeful, Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas), has added homeschool parents to Team Brownback. Mark and Marie Scherbaum of Iowa are the parents of five children, and they are also serve on the candidate's Faith and Family Leadership Committee.

So notes the press release: "Sam Brownback understands the unique role that parents play in the lives of their children and he believes that parents should have the freedom to homeschool their children," said Marie, a mother of five and member of the Marion Home School Assistance Program. "For years, Senator Brownback has been a consistent advocate of parent's rights and expanded access to educational opportunities for home educators, and there is no better champion than Sam Brownback for the fundamental family values we cherish so dearly."

(Wonder what the "expanded access to educational opportunities for home educators" means.)

In May, Mike Farris asked the Senator a question which revealed his personal ties to home education.

On other issues: The Kansan scored well on the "Freedom Index" but did very poorly on the Americans for Better Immigration report card. Maybe Dr. Paul could assign Sam some homework, also.
