Coach Summitt has always struck many as an intimidating and formidable figure. And that she is. But this performance revealed her to be a fifty-something good sport who was willing to appear corny. She also doesn't mind sharing the limelight. After winning the championship, her assistants received these lavish gifts.
No doubt this marriage of academics and sports makes non-fans uncomfortable. Understandable. But the winning programs draw the fans, athletes, TV crews, and the money.
