Thanks to the wonder of photoshop, the United Nations flag, which flies in front of the historic town hall building in Amherst, Mass., has been replaced by the Jolly Roger.
The symbol of piracy and plunder is the ideal banner to place near any government building that collects property taxes and routinely mismanages the money. My friend Larry Kelley is flying this version of the Jolly Roger because Amherst's town manager insists on funding the operation of an underused golf course from the public's purse. The manager even declined a proposal by a private company that was eager to pay the town to run the 9-hole course. Niblick Golf Management was also willing to pay property taxes.
In the past, Larry's single-mindedness (he's been dubbed an "annoying gadfly") over his pet causes has netted him national attention. Who knows where this gadflying will take him.
