The Phrase "Leeches Upon the Body Politic" Seems Fitting
Steve Jobs, as was widely reported, is underwhelmed by teachers unions. Had Mr. Apple Man ventured into the Montana state capitol earlier this month, he would have witnessed the Big Sky state's not finest reacting - boorishly - to an education reform bill.
According to Rep. Roger Koopman, author of HB 230 and vice-chair of the house ed. committee: "With the entire state watching, teachers and MEA officials packed the House gallery, lying in wait for my bill. Included among them were Feaver* and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCullough.
What happened next was so appalling that even now, it remains hard to believe. Rather than respecting the sanctity of our institution, these teachers began misbehaving like 6-year olds who needed to be sent to the principal’s office. They were noisy and disruptive. They frequently clapped and stood up on cue. Their union-inspired tactics ignored all decency and protocol. Their intention was to bully and intimidate legislators into voting against the bill.
Three times, chairman Himmelberger warned them about their outbursts to no avail. Finally, the chair ordered the sergeant-at-arms to 'clear the gallery.' "
