The Homeschooling Revolution

May 26, 2006

Well, We Didn't Have a Winner

Among the top three finishers in the 2006 National Geographic Bee, but 12-year-old Bonny Jain of Illinois is one happy camper.

The champ is also versatile. Bonny will be participating in next week's national spelling bee. The AP reports that it's his third appearance in the famed contest.

Speaking of the Scripps affair, there are 275 spellers in the competition this year - 139 boys, 136 girls. Thirty-seven (13.45%) are homeschoolers.

Samir Patel, the home scholar from Texas who tied for second place in the 2005 contest, will be making a return appearance.

ABC will be broadcasting the final championship rounds, on prime time, on June 1, in high-def.
