The Homeschooling Revolution

February 27, 2006

Marvy Monday

It's so about Miller Time. Bode, deschooling's world-class rebel without a cause, on leaving Torino without a medal: "... it's been an awesome two weeks. I got to party and socialize at an Olympic level."

ACC Scoring Record - 2,590 points. Mr. Redick, the former home scholar and superstar basketball player, broke a 51-year-old record on Saturday during Duke's game against Temple. Of J.J.'s achievement, an ESPN announcer observed, "He did it with God-given talent, but he worked it." As this artfully-crafted article reported, part of the 'work' meant transforming himself from a mouthy, selfish individual into a disciplined, self-controlled team player. One coach described what the maturing process entailed: "Every hour of every day (for a summer) was accounted for, and he followed it. Now it's become who he is."

Here's to J.J. who at, 19, decided he wasn't too old or too cool to submit his destiny to wiser adults.

Aside: Jeanie Redick, J.J.s mom, is a nutritionist who teaches cooking classes. This page mentions her homeschooling experience.

Track me if you can. Thanks to Judy Aron for sending a story that explains how students in a rural California school have to wear an ugly RFID tag. What bondage.

Reminder from Henri and Lady Janine: "We will be hosting the ninth Carnival of Homeschooling next week. Submissions are due by 6:00 PM (PST) on Monday evening, the 27th of February." The instructions for sending in a submission.
