The Chronicles of Parker

Revealing correspondence between Mr. and Mrs. David Parker and the Lexington principal. While I certainly don't approve of this dad getting arrested (but getting arrested for your principles is legit, also.), these parents are either naive or merely eager to get press.

Why? Because of these statements: "Estabrook elementary school (or any elementary school for that matter ) is not supposed to teach my child values and morals. That is the parents' sacred responsibility - whether the parents are heterosexual or homosexual. The public school system is there to teach reading, writing, arithmetic, science, music, art, and other school subjects."

Every single school operates with a value system. It's either in-your-face or subtle. Expecting a child to be a robot merely absorbing the 3R's and not expecting him/her to be influenced by the teacher's persona/lifestyle, the cruel antics of the playground, or the commotion of the lunchroom (a value judgment - some parents don't think it's important to teach their kiddos to chew their food with their mouths closed) is unrealistic.

Having stated that, I'm a) delighted the Parkers made a stink; and b) hoping they realize that it's folly for Biblical Christians to allow their offspring to be schooled by the amoral statists of Taxachusetts; and c) also hoping they realize that the energy they will expend making a stink could be better used to teach their son to read a Dr. Seuss book or build a paper rocket.

Perhaps now that they've been mugged, the Parkers' thinking will undergo a transformation. A decent essay to start with is this one by Thomas L. Johnson, a former professor, who comments: "Public schools are government-established, politician-and-bureaucrat-controlled, fully politicized, taxpayer-supported, authoritarian socialist institutions."
